Our winter hobby- Baja bugs!

When I sold my '68 Charger last winter I decided that I needed a winter time hobby, NOT more summer hobbies that interfered with my riding of motorcycles.  I knew that if I bought another muscle car, my life would not change one bit.  So I focused on making some changes.  Since I have always hated winter, hated being cold, but LOVE anything gasoline powered, after much thinking, I decided on Baja bugs.

The Baja bugs are basically just like dual sports/enduros, but that you can get in when really cold, raining or the possibilities of foul weather are on the horizon.  The green '69 is my second Baja.

They really are a lot of fun and I can't believe more people aren't into them.  They get over 30 mpg, have a range of at least 250 miles without worrying about gas, have wipers, a cab and since we take the backseats and passenger seats out, they can carry ANYTHING you happen to find at a thrift store or yard sale when you're out.  Believe me, I know I hauled a five foot shelve to store my motorcycle helmets.

Cool rocks headed to Mears Bluff

I love big rocks and I cannot lie!

Also went to visit the "Bubbler" or as the Yellville Chamber of Commerce describes it, "The natural Artesian Well".  It is  located on Highway 14, then go to Marion County Road 5040, go approx 1/2 mile.  According to Google it is actually called Big Springs but everyone knows it as being located in Ralph today.

The Old Snowball House is AMAZING!

My husband Gabe and I recently stayed at The Old Snowball House in Snowball, Arkansas. Snowball is an unincorporated community in Searcy County that sits at the junction of AR highways 74 and 377. At one time Snowball was a booming town, but just like other towns all across America, people moved off, the post office closed and their school consolidated. When we found out there was a place to rent in Snowball, we were super excited as Gabe had won a coveted public elk hunt in Searcy County.

As soon as you walk into the home, it greets you with a welcoming feeling that fills you with a sense that you are its first guests. The entry room includes a desk, lamp, pens, guest book and a binder of information about the house, history of Snowball plus things to see locally. There are also some hiking maps included since this house is only a few miles from the Buffalo National River and its various trails.  This room worked perfectly as a mudroom as we took off our boots and wet clothes before going into the living area.

The Old Snowball House welcomes you

This house has three bedrooms, all with ceiling fans and two bathrooms, both with showers, and the downstairs has a tub. Both of the larger couches make into beds. There is a sitting area upstairs plus a king-sized bedroom. Downstairs has two bedrooms; a queen and a  twin size. The downstairs living room is large to allow ample conversation while the open floor allows visitors to be near in the dining areas.  A nice touch was the crochet throws for added coziness while you are on the couch watching television or a DVD.

The owner has decorated the house in browns, shades of blue and gray, with a little country pink thrown in as an accent.  An elk antler on the coffee table represents the size of elk that you can see while you’re in Searcy County.  Although the house was built in the late 1800s, it was recently refurbished with modern conveniences without losing its rustic appeal.

The Old Snowball House dining table

The dining room includes a unique table made from an original door, overlaid with a sheet of glass to protect it.  Being paired with modern chairs seems to bring out its character even more. You can sit here and get inspired while looking out the windows or just reading a good book.

The house boasts a full-sized kitchen that has everything you could want; refrigerator, microwave, oven, dishwasher, toaster, crockpot, waffle maker, coffee pot, and Keurig. The owner has stocked the kitchen with silverware, dishes, cookware, cookie sheets, etc that you might need during your stay. Under the sink is plenty of cleaning supplies if you make a mess or if you get bored and want to clean.

Both the upstairs and downstairs have a bathroom and each of them contains extra towels, toilet paper and a large assortment of shampoos, conditioners, soaps, and items such as peroxide and alcohol. The laundry room includes a full-size washer and dryer that came in handy as it rained several days we were there. The bed was the most comfortable EVER and you can tell the owner did not skimp one bit when picking out the linens and the super cozy blankets. The bed was simply AMAZING!

The Old Snowball House has everything you need for a night away or a week's vacation. The only thing you have to bring is your sense of adventure. These are just a sample of photos from the house, as I do not want to give the whole experience away. There is so much detail in this vacation rental that you must see it for yourself!

Searcy County offers a multitude of things to do and I can’t wait to stay at this house again. I rode the “Bear Creek Growl” route earlier this year on my 1956 Panhead, and I am looking forward to riding it on my 1939 Knucklehead! Searcy County is a great place to play, and The Old Snowball House is a great place to stay!
